Nursing as a Regulated Profession
The nursing profession is a regulated profession in Germany. This means that practice is only possible with state recognition and the corresponding licence. The aim of these regulations is to ensure the quality of care and the protection of patients.
Training and Continuing Education
Qualification as a nursing professional in Germany is achieved through state-recognised training. In addition, there are diverse further training opportunities, for example in intensive care, palliative care, geriatric psychiatry, practical instruction or nursing management.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Nursing professionals take on responsible tasks in the care, accompaniment and counselling of people in need of care. These include nursing assessments, planning and carrying out nursing measures, documentation, monitoring health status and collaboration with doctors and other professional groups.
Job Market and Fields of Activity
The demand for qualified nursing professionals in Germany is consistently high. Employment opportunities exist in hospitals, inpatient care facilities, outpatient nursing services and specialised forms of care, among others.
Professional Associations
Nursing professionals can organise themselves in professional associations, e.g. the German Professional Association for Nursing Professions (DBfK). Associations offer professional information, advice and represent professional interests.
