Language & Qualification

CEFR Language Levels

Language skills in Europe are frequently classified according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Levels range from A1/A2 (basic knowledge) through B1/B2 (independent language use) to C1/C2 (advanced).

Required Language Level

A specific language level is generally required for professional practice in nursing. Additionally, a specialist language examination focused on care-related communication may be necessary.

(Specialist) Language Examinations

Language examinations may test general language skills and – depending on the recognition pathway – also specialist terminology. The aim is confident communication in everyday work.

Quality Features of Language Schools

Good language courses are characterised by qualified teachers, structured curricula, sufficient teaching hours, clear learning objectives and transparent examination formats.

Funding Opportunities

Depending on the individual case, funding opportunities for language courses or qualification measures may exist. Which funding options are available depends on requirements, residence status and programmes.
